Tripoli's Green Square

Tripoli's Green Square is, I suppose, Libya's Times Square.  It's right between the walled old medina and one of the fancier parts of town.  In the picture below, you can see part of the Tripoli Castle off to the right.  The medina is behind that and further to the right.  Between those two tall pillars near the middle of the picture is the Green Square.



This is the upper part of the Green Square just before dawn; usually, this area is full of pedestrians, the fountain is running, and people are sitting about.  At one point, the concrete here was actually painted green.  You can barely see what remains of the color when you walk across it nowadays.



The main entertainment on the Green Square most nights.



This photo was taken from near the arches.  See, it's big!  And most of the time, all this space is filled with parked cars.
