The waterfalls extend for well over a kilometer -- and they fall far. You can view them from a distance, but to really see them, you have to get wet. Here's me, really wet. There's mist everywhere, and in most spots it feels like it's raining hard. Sometimes, the "rain" goes straight up in the air. On the Zambian side, you walk across the bridge, and then walk on paths maybe 40 meters from where the water heads down. You can just make out the guardrail in this photo.
Here's the view opposite the falls -- way below this rainbow is the river, and a lot of mist.
