After Delivery

This room is just outside the delivery room. It has three beds, and is separated from a waiting room by a curtain. After giving birth, the mothers and their babies rest here. They stay for days -- or longer, if necessary.

A proud new mother in the same room.

This woman is in a small dorm room -- the longer-term housing for new mothers. She was pregnant with triplets, but only two of the babies survived. Her village is about 110 km away. mothers often stay until their babies reach about 2.5 kilograms.

This woman's village is also over 100 km away. She is waiting here to get a ride back to her village.

This woman has been here for over two months. Her village is about 250 km away, and she cannot find a way to get home.

Many of the women who give birth here have no money to pay the maternity ward. Deliveries are often performed gratis.
