Twelve miles southeast from Harare’s city center lies a “location” called Epworth. Unrecognized by the government, houses in Epworth have no addresses, and streets have no names. Like other “townships” and “compounds” I have seen on my journey, many homes in Epworth lack electricity, water, and waste disposal.
In 1980, Epworth’s population was about 20,000. Twenty years later, it was over 100,000. Here's a part I've visited several times.

The bucket and brick in the above photo are used to keep the tarp flat on the roof.
