Azure Window

In the west of Gozo is an amazing natural arch over the sea called the Azure Window.

Near the Azure Window is the aptly named Blue Hole.

Coming Soon: Africa, Part 2

On Saturday I fly to Casablanca to begin my second journey across Africa. If you have friends or even friends of friends in Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, the Sudan, or Yemen, please let me know. Special bonus points if you know someone in Somaliland...

Deserted Gozitan Resort

Near Calypso's cave, there's a narrow overgrown path -- perfect for a little motorbike. I drove down and found this resort. Years ago, it must have been quite nice. Nowadays, it's beautiful in a different way.

Spelunking in Calypso's Cave

In the north of Gozo. Odysseus may have spent some time here a while back.
You can't see it from here, but the cave's pretty deep. When I visited, the cave and the surrounding area were completely deserted. I went pretty far in, but then got the heebie jeebies and got out in a hurry.
When you emerge from the cave, here's the view.

Gozo Looks Like This

Motorbike to Gozo

I hired a motorbike and went north through Malta, took a ferry, and ended up in Gozo. Everyone here will tell you that Gozo now is what Malta was like 30 years ago. If that's so, Malta was pretty nice 30 years ago.

Here's the motorbike.
Here's the cliff on the west of the island where I camped.
And here's what Gozo looks like.

Maltese Chandeliers

Or, anyhow, chandeliers in Malta.

Hats and Boats

Two mainstays in Malta. Here's us in a hat shop.
Fun to try on, a little much to own.

The President's Hunting Lodge

The Maltese President has a very large hunting lodge located in the only forest in Malta. It's quite a place.
