Tunis Has Flamingoes

These guys were just a 30-minute walk from the center of the Tunis medina.  They are in this sometimes-dry "lake" in Tunis during the morning, and they apparently fly over to Lake Tunis during the evening.

It's a very romantic walk along the shore of this little lake when the birds are here.  The only thing that detracts from the ambiance -- and only just a smidge -- is the fact that you have to walk through an endless sea of bird poop to get close enough to actually see the birds well.  That's a small price for an urban photo of flamingoes, I say.
