Kamina, DRC

Here's a first look at Kamina. This town of more than 300,000 doesn't even show up on most maps. From the sky, the nicer part of the town looks like this.
An average nice street in Kamina looks like this. And yes, the sun is always this weak when it is low in the sky. One of the most remarkable things about the DRC is that the sky is always grey -- not blue. The air is full of ash, or pollution, or ... who knows.
This is the view near the airstrip. Most of the taller trees have been cut down around Kamina.
It's hard to see in this picture, but this is fresh grass growing on ash. There was a bush fire here recently.
