The level of froth and tourist pandemonium at Lake Louise, Banff's signature lake, is overwhelming. Here is a backlit photo of my incredulous reaction to the overall scene.
Don't get me wrong, it's a hell of a lake. But the frenzy up there seemed disproportionate to the natural beauty because there are tons of other magnificent lakes, rivers, and streams nearby -- and at the right time of day, you might find yourself completely alone at them, or at least with a view all to yourself.
Props to those people out on the lake on kayaks. That seemed like a nice way to take it all in.

Google Lake Louise and you'll find a zillion glorious photos -- go ahead and do that to see what all the hubbub is about. For my part, I couldn't wait to get out of there and spend some time in other nearby areas that felt less like Disneyland.
