Sicamous seems like a pretty nice spot to vacation. It calls itself "The Houseboat Capital of the World." I like that -- a solid niche.
Speaking of city slogans, I got a kick out of Lincoln City, Oregon's "welcome" sign. It said, in quotes, "A Great Place To Try New Things." You can imagine some guy saying, "man, I've been thinking of trying new stuff, but I don't know where to try it." That guy will be delighted when he drives into Lincoln City and realizes he's finally in the right spot.
Back to Sicamous, which is on the Canadian Highway 1 some distance past the charming town of Kamloops. If you don't want a beachfront home, you can grab one of these on the little canal right behind a beautiful beach and park.
View from a very impressive pedestrian bridge in Sicamous. The Canadians appear to be huge fans of bridges. They build nice ones for cars, outlandish ones for pedestrians, and absolutely charming giant grassy bridges over the highway in national parks so the animals can walk to and fro without encountering traffic.
